    Hi all,

I want to start the soft pedal voicing on a Steinway D project I'm doing, and can't find any carbon paper around here to transfer the string marks to the hammers.

Anyone have an alternative way to get the string pattern to the hammers now before any grooves are there?

    Thanks
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
Carbon paper certainly makes life easier:

    Just a thought...

You can, in a pinch, try dental closure paper - what they use to check your bite after a filling.

Ebay. You can find boxes of good old carbon paper, still just fine, from the 1950's or so.

Get a carpenters pencil and use the graphite stick out of it.

I have plenty of it, which I could send you, it you give me an address.  A few sheets should last almost a career.

I did get some at Staples.  Not as good as the old stuff, but it does work...

Try Hobby Lobby or Michaels Crafts stores. Some of the woodworking supply houses
like Rockler and Woodcraft have transfer paper. Of course Staples, Office Depot are possible sources.

I've recently purchased some at my local Staples.  Taking a look at both the Staples and Office Depot (Office Max) web sites show they still sell it.
