Michael,
Ten in a day is doable I guess when there isn't major pitch change involved, as in your remarkably stable climate in England. This time of year, every piano I tune I will need to move pitch down in the 20 - 40¢ range, and that's a lot of work. I do four a day, sometimes five, and am exhausted during these long weeks (95 to get done by 8/18, theoretically, with some help). In the spring, I am just cleaning up unisons, doing very minor pitch adjustment, and it is far easier and quicker.

Is this 40+ in ONE DAY? It usually takes me about 3/4hr. to 1hr. per tuning plus any odd things like action regulation & repairs and extracting drawing pins from under the tails of grand keys.... On Monday I started at 9:30am, tuned ten pianos and finished about 3:00pm. These pianos are very stable and I hadn't tuned them for a year. Finished the last three on Thursday morning and took the rest of the day off. But then I'm semi-retired and at 80 next birthday so I should be! Michael (UK)
