I was called to repair the broken glue joints on a 70's Yamaha lyre. The piano, located in a local high school had been move on a spider truck through a doorway that had a raised door threshold which broke both the upper plate and lower pedal box glue joints. My standard method of disassembly is to cut out the wedges at the end of the posts separate the parts with a rubber mallet. The upper plate joint had staking nails which I removed, but I didn't realize after a long difficult separation procedure of the pedal box ends that the posts connected to the pedal box also had staking nails. It was impossible to see these nails until the posts were separated from the pedal box. Let it be noted that there may be staking nails in the pedal box of Yamaha pianos.
