The PTG Foundation has a Disaster Relief Fund.  Claude Harding, our PTGF president and part of the Houston Chapter, has been in touch with those in the area, as has the Disaster Relief Committee. Here's an update from Claude:

Hurricane Harvey has wreaked havoc on southeast Texas, and Greater Houston, particularly, has been in the news.  I don't need to review the damage the storm has caused both in Texas and also into Louisiana. News outlets have told the stories.  Fortunately, at present we know of no PTG members who have suffered damage from the storm, but efforts are being made to check on every member in the affected area.

The Piano Technicians Guild Foundation has a Disaster Relief Fund, administered by a Disaster Relief Committee, currently made up of Marilyn Raudenbush (Chair), Jim Geiger, and Nolan Zeringue. The fund was created to provide emergency aid to members who are affected by natural disasters and other events beyond their control.

Marilyn contacted SCRVP Steve Walthall to inquire if there were members affected by the storm.  Steve has been in touch with Houston Chapter leadership and contacts in Louisiana. Houston Chapter President, Glenn Yost, had Chapter Secretary Robert Zoschke send an email message to the membership asking for everyone to report on their  situation.  This was followed up by attempts to make phone contact with the membership.  In spite of some close calls, all the members reporting so far have been spared from the flooding into their homes or any significant damage from the storm. Chapter leadership is continuing efforts to reach the remaining members to verify that all are okay.  Disaster Relief Committee members have also made follow-up contact with chapter leadership to check on the situation, and will keep in touch with regional leadership for future reports.

Goodness, Claude has his hands full between the Foundation's superb

disaster response (thank you also to Marilyn Raudenbush) and his own

son's family's personal loss of home and hearth.

Thank you, Joyce, for sharing these items.

Does anyone know the whereabouts of Avery Todd, and how he's doing? I lost track of him when he retired. I have no idea whether he stayed in the Houston area.

    Susan,
In regard to your inquiry about Avery Todd, I regret to inform you that Avery passed away several years ago. He was an excellent piano technician and a fine fellow.

    PTG Member Database
It might be worthwhile to allow the Member database to list those who have passed.

An excellent suggestion, provided privacy concerns are taken into account.

Thank you, Claude. At least I can stop wondering, and worrying about whether he might have been caught in the flood.

I liked Avery a lot, but his name wasn't unusual enough to locate him with Google.

Yes, I think that listing deceased members is a good idea. If a name disappears from the Directory, one doesn't know if someone just let their membership lapse, or if they have passed away.
