Top 12 notes ( trichords) of a scale are all .031, except one note the middle, It is .017. It's original. All lengths progress consecutively.
Reputable maker. Do you assume it's a mistake and change it? Or leave it? Or something else?

I have a piano in my Nuclear Fallout Shelter, and my competitors don't. How silly is that?

If the string length and pitch indicate it should be .031" then I would change it.

Thank you Peter. Obvious sequential pattern, obvious mistake. Certainly wouldn't leave it, or keep it that way when restringing. Why copy a mistake.

How do you know it's original? Maybe It was a bad repair done by someone who had impeccable technique 100 years ago.

    Maybe it's the .017 stamp.

So a guy with impeccable technique can't have a stamp and ink pad to cover his tracks? I certainly do.
