Sometimes cool stuff happens

Sometimes life just dares you to remain unimpressed. Local Tallahassee businessman DeVoe Moore owns four art case model D Steinways and displays them at The Antique Car Museum.  Steinway and Sons moved the 500000 Steinway to the museum to be displayed along side them. Recently Mr. Moore arraigned to have The 5 Browns give a performance at FSU's Ruby Diamond Auditorium.  Steinway offered me the opportunity to prep the pianos for this concert. Last September I worked on the pianos and with the Browns but on the day of the concert Tallahassee got hit by Hurricane  Hermine and the performance was postponed. The concert is back on for this Thursday and I'm back in Tallahassee again. The pianos are the Alma Tadema replica, the first Whitehouse piano replica, the Chihuly piano, the UN "Peace" piano and Steinway number 500000. I get to work in a lot of neat places on a lot of  really nice pianos but I can't even pretend that this gig doesn't leave me starstruck. I want to thank James R. Sims RPT who sold most of these instruments to and maintains them for Mr. Moore for letting me work on them and (Oh yeah) teaching me how to tune 35 years ago right here in Tallahassee. I also want to thank Mr. Moore for setting up this concert and letting me spend some time with his pianos. Now I just hope I can get 1215 strings in unison and convince 1215 tuning pins to stay where I put them long enough for the concert to get finished and for me to skip town before anyone notices.

    Sweet. Congratulations.

Even a totally aural tuner like me understands that putting these 5 D's in tune with each other is a perfect job for an ETD.

Great story and pictures! Congratulations Karl.
My neck would be stiff and forearm would be a bit tired after tuning those five.
It looks like more than a two Advil tuning job.
After doing the 5D's you might want to consider being a piano technician as your occupation.

    Congratulations.

So what's on the program? It would be nice to have an URL for the event or website where we can find such information.

All I could find on the Brown Website is this.

Awesome ...... the Five Browns performed here a few years back on 5 Steinway D's with lids removed.  Do the best you can but don't worry about making each piano perfect because they are mostly played together with lots of force. You may want to practice some string tying and definitely check the lyres . It should be quite a concert......

It's such a special auditorium, and that will add to the fun of seeing/hearing the program.

FYI, I discovered the Steinway Website is promoting the event with a program that helps them do so.
