We will have a meeting next Monday evening for all students, faculty, and staff of the School of Music.  A perfect time for me to be able to give a quick talk about policies concerning piano use, etc.  My position is new enough that we don't have any official policy document agreed on by the piano department, deans, myself, etc.  I'm just wondering if any of you would share what you would cover in this type of meeting where you can address everyone at once.  Or if this is a regular thing you do each year and have an outline of what you cover, perhaps you could share.

    WoW!! 😱😱😄😄. Very VERY effective!

David, keeping it as cocise and simple is your best bet. It nearly always ends up being a "pick your battles" kind of thing.

Imho, you definitely need something in your policy stating how much advanced notice must be given for a Tuning request. We have 3 weeks as our policy. (This will cut WAY down on those last minute "exceptions" and gives you some control as opposed to "you must do whatever needs to be done regardless of circumstances" protocol which will always TRY to prevail. RESISTENCE IS NOT FUTILE in a nutshell)
This was covered in the nice video.

"No drinks" signs in every practice room does help--with some patroling at the beginning of each semester is even more effective.

I'm sure there are a couple of items unique to your school/situation you will need to add--but again, keep it as simple as possible as far as overall policy.
(We have written policies for Harpsichord use and prepared piano stuff, and definitely whip those out as it comes up. But preaching this to everyone is pointless.)

    My 2 cents! Best wishes!

I hate polo shirts. Why don't girls wear them voluntarily? Think that is a clue....
