Hi, all.

Customer's 18 year old Yamaha DC3 majority of treble bridge is split along both rows of bridge pins. 
Estimate accepted and piano is coming in two weeks. Assumption was that the strings and
plate were coming out to access treble section of bridge. Talking to David Durben today,
it seems like this was an occasional issue and covered under warranty with work done by
local rebuilder. But they had a method of routing the bridge without pulling the plate. 
Dave send me photos of the jig for clamping the new bridge cap, but nothing could be 
found detailing the removal of the original cap. I don't know how the height of the struts
and proximity of the plate was overcome. Has anyone done this? I am hoping to
shorten the turn around and save the customer and myself a lot of avoidable cost and
work. Any light you can shed would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know how you would get the bridge pin angles correct with the plate in.

You wouldn't get them right pin angles right, period. This is a manufacturer's cover-your-ass fix intended to get the failed warranty issue fixed with minimal functionality, at the least cost.

C3's I have met have other stringing issues and rendering issues that one could make good use of this opportunity to correct, rather than pretending this minimal kind of repair is an adequate fix.
