Hi David,
I think it is pretty much analogous to tweaking tight tuning pins. I find it helpful to be supporting the key with one hand while pressing against the check with the other, possibly moving/pressing the key at the same time and in the opposite direction - "adjusting the key to the check" as it is a longer lever (as opposed to, say, pushing out on the check with the key supported by the balance pin and back rail felt). This adds a wee bit more control. Also, a good repertory of swear words in various languages may be helpful in maintaining focus and perspective: this too, shall pass, but just like with a tight tuning pin, it is actually important what the end result turns out to be, and that will reflect on your reputation.

Subject: Fine regulating stiff backcheck wires - as per "Repeated notes" thread
Fred had said:
So if we regulate to higher check, we will have to de-regulate check to do our periodic evaluation and tweaking of rep spring strength, and then re-regulate check. Not an additional couple steps I find acceptable in my constant search for efficiency
Not to deflect from the primary thrust of the repeated notes thread, but I'd be interested in some of the ways people 'tweek' the checking height with stiff backcheck wires.
