    List,

Two and a half years ago I posed a question on these lists. At the convention in St. Louis this past week, Bob Anderson, RPT, asked me if I ever got an answer. I did, but thanks to Bob's good memory and inquiry, just now realized that the answer was sent not to the lists, but to me privately. So, for Bob and anyone else who may find this useful, here it is, from David Betts (who taught for many years at North Bennett Street School):

I actually have better pictures that Debbie or I will send you today. Once you have the new pictures I don't mind if you post it. I'm sure there will be a few responses that will say it will not work but I have used this trick numerous times with success. The only restriction is the amount of movement of the rep lever due to the stop screw and post. Jack pinning can be checked at the same time. I am forwarding seven pictures that Debbie took.

To check these types of repetition centers I use a small paper clip that I can bend one end in a U shape that will fit over the side of the lever and into the rep window. It cannot interfere with the jack in the window. On the other end of the paper clip I bend it to hold the spring, once removed from the jack, This now makes the spring and rep lever one unit and I can check the pinning. The paper clip does add about 1 gram of weight to that end of the rep lever but is consistant for the entire set. I look for a minimum of 4 grams resistance with the force at the drop screw pad. I have also formed something out of thin music wire that works similar to the paper clip. Just never have a paper clip when I need one but wire I always have.

For the record, David Betts still teaches at NBSS, and may it ever be thus!
