A Spruce Supplier Retiring

I post this since spruce seems to be getting harder to get.
I found a Sitka Spruce supplier last week and ordered a 130 BFT. He is 80 years old and is retiring. He wants to sell his remaining stock.  In fact, what I bought was such a good deal that shipping it UPS was worth it. He's located near Albany New York.  He said its all AAA quartersawn and perfectly clear, and he purchased it 5 years ago so it is well seasoned quality stuff. Mine is coming today!

just talked to him. I have no use for that much 3' and 4' stock, and he will not sell just the longs. Did the math including purchasing stock that's too short to use, and it does not seem to make sense. Think I'll give it a pass, but a good lead anyway...thanks.

    Jim,
You may want to consider after you see the pictures i'm loading. This stuff is incredible! Not a single blemish, and I noticed it is very light in weight. I am super pleased I found Bob. He sent an email and said he has to keep the 4' and the 6' together he can work with you (BTW that's what I did). He sells the 3' to luthiers.
    Here's the pics:

Yeah, those are pretty short pieces. And it works out to like $15 per board-foot - pretty darn expensive! I usually buy boards that are two inches thick by six to nine inches wide and 12' to 16' long for $5 per board-foot. Yes there tend to be a few sections of wood with a few pitch pockets, etc., but not many - 80% to 90% of it is gorgeous clear quarter sawn stock. I just don't find it a big deal to cut out a defect if I think it is too large.

Few pictures attached. Oops - looks like they will come out in the reverse order than I intended - the steak and beer are for AFTER a hard day's work!

terry...willing to share your source?   I used to buy 8/4 sitka from a local yard, but it was so riddled with internal splits and other serious flaws that after the $12 dbft rough cost  it ended up being horribly expensive, and still pretty lousy stock. I'm just coming to the end of some amazing stock I got from Ed Mcmorrow which he bought from Posey, before they closed.

Yes, and my cousin is trying to find out why Northwest Specialty Woods closed without noticed. I'm amazed terry can get it at $5 bft being in Florida with shipping and all. Should be a snap for ya in Boston. I'd like to know the supplier as well.

    So Chris,

Having had time to unpack and stack this stock, what is your opinion of the wood?  I am going to buy the 4's and 6's, but wanted to get your opinion before I make my payment.

Fantastic stuff! Funny you posted this, I just ordered new bandsaw blades. Luckily a company here in town makes blades on the spot. I know you're going to ask, so I ordered 4tpi skip tooth. Should work fine. They didn't have 3tpi.
So, is Terry keeping his source secret?? What's the big deal?

Thanks for the review Chris. I bought the lot. We will go pick it up sometime at the end of the month...a 3hr drive from here, I think.
