As several others have said, using cc's can be profitable. I buy most of my groceries, gas and prescriptions at Costco. I spend. N average if $1100 a month. Then every 3 months I get a check for about $80 from Visa to use any way I want. Free money.
I use a Hawaiian Airlines cc for all my other purchases, including travel, which gives me miles. Over the past 8 years I've flown free to the mainland several times, saving me $500 per trip. And Ive flown to neighboring island free a bunch of times, again, saving me $150 per trip. That adds up.
As as I said before, I'm more than happy to accept cards, not only for my benefit, but my customers, too.

One difference is that I'm never carrying a balance, so I never pay them any interest.

What's the difference? The bank and credit card companies still get their piece of the action, regardless where you use the card.

I use a debit card, as a convenience, but that's in stores, not to individual business people.

For those of you who are so adamant about not taking credit cards, I hope you feel the same way about using them. I presume all of you that don't accept credit cards also don't use them in your everyday activities, like buying gas, groceries, going out to dinner, much less traveling.
Paying by cedit cards have become a way of life. Yes there is a fee, but why not charge extra for all your services and then give a discount for cash or even checks.

I have just one client, IBM, who pays by credit card. Why should I lose money to service one account? Ergo, I charge my regular fee plus credit card and transaction fee.

For the most part people pay me with checks or cash but a little while back I discovered that China doesn't have personal checks. We have a pretty large Chinese population here so I was glad I was able to take their credit card! It's nice to have the ability to take cards even though I don't very often. Actually, I'm surprised at how many young people have checks! I have them, but write very few anymore.
