  • 1.  The deceptively difficult hinge pin

    First time i saw this.
    By having the hinge pin facing inward, it sure made it difficult to get it off. I had to hold the lid vertically with one hand to pull the pins out. Good thing it was a small lid.

    The pin is obviously not intended to be inserted that way, as the damage to the case and lid demonstrates.

    But it keeps school kids from removing them. And the one time you forget to check, the lid slides to the floor.

    Yes, you are correct Larry in that in schools anything that is not welded down can walk. Some pianos have the hinge attached in such a way that you can insert the pin from the inside and not damage anything.

    We not know this was a school piano, and there is no mention of a school in the post.

    The damage has been done so perhaps it does not matter any more for this piano.   But we all know there are other, non-destructive ways to secure hinge pins.
