As if we didn't have enough to worry about!

Has anyone had problems with shoe polish from your nicely shined black shoes leave smudges on lighter carpets?

This could be a problem when working under a grand on pedal trap works or while working on upright bass bridges.

Just take your shoes off before you enter the house.

Plain Johnsons paste wax over leather avoids that.

I (nearly) always remove my shoes at the door.  An alternative is to carry a supply of surgical type booties.

Shoes off just inside the door, especially if there is carpet or if it is raining.

Even when we wear sneakers, we always remove them at the door...every single time.  All it takes is one little rock that's caught in a tread and there will be scratches on a wooden floor.  It's a hassle and I know that after 45 years, but it saves an unhappy customer with a floor repair for which we would have to pay.

Yikes! I didn't know anyone polished their shoes anymore. I don't think I've polished a pair of shoes in 25 years...Maybe it's a regional thing.

I agree with Briscoe Darling on the Andy Griffith Show.

If it looks like it might be an issue, I ask permission to leave my shoes on, as in :  " I'm old, and will be standing part of the time.  Without my shoes on that's  a problem."

I have tuned in stocking feet for 25+ years and now it feels oddly uncomfortable when I have to leave my shoes on (like in filthy houses).
