Does anyone know why some older Mason and Hamlins and some Knabes have the tuning pins angled TOWARD the bridges, rather than the general trend of tilting AWAY by a few degrees? It certainly affects the hammer technique needed.

I have never noticed this on these brands. I do know most old Grotrians have almost no back tilt and the pins they use have hardly any thread and sometimes the the pins will start to climb out of the block as you tune.
