A cut-off bar would be contrary to this design concept. The design came to me when i threw a rock into a pond, and i watched the ripples expand out in circles. I felt there may be some use for it for the larger concert halls. I noticed at a couple concerts i went to that the Steinway D was barely audible with a full symphony orchestra.
The rib scale was interesting. Most traditional rib scales hover around .75" cross section per linear inch. The butterfly is about .87" per linear inch. I would test the deflection ranges first to verify, if i was to make the thing. But, only way that happened is if somewhat like a Trump commissioned one.
Funny was the skid board i designed for it. I'll leave that to your imagination.

Looks interesting, Chris. What is the logic behind the shape of the rim?

Well, I had this design of mine shelved for some time now (wow since 2010), and i frankly had forgotten about it. At the time, i had the guts to build it, but not enough funds. Now I have the money, but I don't have the guts to do it now. Go figure!
