The music desk on a Kimball grand has a long continuous piano hinge with tiny screws just like the hinge on the half lid.

Playing the piano around C4 causes an annoying rattle that goes away when the music desk is folded forward bu it returns when propped up.

I read something about using linseed oil on the hinges but I thought I read that super thin CA can be used on all of the screws and the hinge
    "Fingers" .

I mention the half lid because it has the same type hinge.

Need to elimiinate this nuisance since the piano will be miced for a sow this weekend

Hi James,  remove the hinge.  Bend it a bit here and there and reinstall.  This causes the long hinge pin to press against the fingers inside it's confines thusly eliminating the buzzzzzzzz.

Will give it a try . After doing this and noise is gone I will be happy but if not plan b may be to put super thin CA on screws . I took pictures of the hinges so may post them so everyone can see what I am talking about

I think it was Don Mannino that came up with the oil technique. I don't recall it was linseed oil. Seems too smelly.

I purchased a can of boiled linseed oil and used a stencil brush to apply it all over the hinge fingers. I also tightened all of the small screws on the half lid a total of 54 and another 32 on the music desk hinge. No noise came from the music desk after this but I heard another noise that sounded like loose nut on the key stop rail. After taking out the fall board and cheek blocks I saw that the nuts on the rail where tight on the bottom and top sides. I then checked the fall board hinges which were screwed to the cheek blocks and found some of the screws to be loose. I used a mallet to peen the axle that the hinge rotated on and it tightened up things. After assembling it all I could not detect a noise. Conclusion: noise/rattle was coming from two different sources - the linseed treatment worked an so did tightening hinge screws and banging on the hinge axle
