A client, who is a particularly well-versed "consumer of pianos" is looking for his next acquisition. He has played several of the larger Estonia grands of recent vintage, and liked them quite a lot. The price is certainly right!

The question is this: How will they fare over time. Apparently, Estonia seriously stepped up their game some time in the last ten to twenty years. Any one out the have any experience with an Estonia concert grand that is ten to fifteen years old? If you have, your input would be a prized commodity to my client. Respond on list or off, if you prefer.

    Thanks,

    Alan

Without time travel, it's hard to know how a recent piano holds up over time... :-)

My family has a 2000 Estonia 168 that's been played for an hour a day in a <g class="gr_ gr_105 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_disable_anim_appear Punctuation only-del replaceWithoutSep" id="105" data-gr-id="105">home,</g> and is in excellent shape. I take care of a 2008 L190 that's used every week in a church, and it's one of my favorite pianos to service and play. Regulation is stable, and I love the tone.

There have been changes over the years, which I'm sure someone with more experience will describe (e.g. the 2000 model has front rail glide bolts in the <g class="gr_ gr_367 gr-alert gr_spell gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling" id="367" data-gr-id="367">keybed</g>). I've been very happy with them. I have no experience with the 7' or 9' models.

Since Estonias are few and far between in the U. S., any input about them is much appreciated. Thanks for these particulars Cy.

Now about that time machine you mentioned…
