I have done enough manual "pounding" of a piano with new action and hammers to see its value. However, by hand really isn't sufficient even if it were possible to do it for hours. I'm wondering if there are others out there who have made a pounder like the factories have -- either built from scratch or from repurposed parts like a PianoDisc or the vacuum-operated player unit that would play conventional paper rolls and sit on top of the keys.

Anybody out there who has done this or knows someone who has?

Feel free to contact me directly if you wish. keith@akinspianocraft.com or call 9a-9p Central M-Sat

    Thanks for any pointers.

People have used old style keytop players.  These can still be found every once in a while. get in contact with MMD.
I have seen  a home made one which has two bars that are raised by a cam and drop onto naturals and sharps. Bösendorfer has (had) this type.

The easiest may be to buy a new one. They are made by PianoDisc

    Thank you Jurgen,
    Neither option appeals to me.
On the one hand, i want to avoid electronics.  Years down the line I don't want to have to look for parts. The cam one with two arms is rather bulky for my liking. The old player units does peak interest, but, I have something better in mind.

Oh, DO keep us informed! (And not guessing)

Here, in the meantime,  is a video of something that can give your piano an artistic workout.

That is one nice little robot! I had no idea something like that was available. Cool!

It's a little more techno than the Pianola from the 1890s, but the same principle. This is the one we have in the Jack Wyatt Museum.
