David,
A while back I purchased a grand action model to study for the RPT technical. No, it's not for sale :) Anyway, I found out that there are options depending on how much you want to pay. Schaff sells generic vertical and grand models, $185 and $285 respectively. If you want a better quality one, the price goes up to $900. Brand specific models are also up there on price, simply because they're name-brand.
As was once told me, KWYADAWYADI (know what you are doing and why you are doing it). In this situation, KWYABAWYABI (know what you are buying and why you are buying it).

It depends on your goals. You could "go for it" and get the ones in which you can experiment with the action geometry in thousands of ways, pricey but totally amazing. (Can't remember the person who makes these but it's in the Journal and others will chime in).
OR, you could go with the 3 note action models made available through PTG. These are used for RPT exams and are also legit. More practical & affordable unless you have a healthy budget. Of course if you DO have the budget for the nicer (action geometry) ones, this would sure be the time to go for it! Great investment for the University!
