I've been searching th archives for info on removing lacquer from over lacquered hammers. What I haven't been able to find is a method/technique for doing this. Lots of discussion but not "how to" instructions. I did find this from Fred Sturm in 2011:

"See my article in the June 2009 PTJ (on removing lacquer from hammers) for the technique. (This also works for saturating with a lacquer solution, should you wish to do that)."

There's no such article in the June 2009 PTJ. No luck searching PTJ archives either. Anyone know where to find this? Fred?

    thanks,
    Aaron

What I have done is to soak the crown with acetone and use an air compressor to drive the solids away from the crown. Toweling at the shoulders of the hammers blocks anything spewing out.

First you remove the hammers... then replace them with new ones! Sorry, couldn't resist. See Jon's post for a good suggestion.
