We've been having trouble with Mohawk Brass Lacquer, both in dispensing and the lacquer tarnishing new, blasted, brass action rails only handled with gloves.  Never had this problem before, but the last 3 mohawk cans have been really frustrating.

Question is, what is the difference between brass lacquer and just straight clear lacquer. Is the "brass" designation foo-foo?

Mohawk claims there are "anti-tarnishing additives" in heir brass lacquer. I've never been satisfied with Mohawk's brass lacquer. Nikolas lacquer is definitely a superior product.

Why have you not been satisfied with the Mohawk...issues?

I spoke with a Mohawk tech at length about this, and am not convinced the non-tarnishing additive is necessary. No indications are given as to what it is, and I can find no references to lacquer additive compounds specific to clear lacquer on brass.

For all metal spraying I use Dupli-Color clear coat and primer sold at my local NAPA store.  I've been very happy with it. Doesn't chip or scratch easily, like wood lacquers did. Tough stuff. If i do scratch something, i just tape off the area and airbrush. It's good to have good quality airbrush, not a cheapie.
