    Hello everyone,

I have a Yamaha G1 retrofitted with a QRS system many years ago and when one plays and the returns it clicks on the solenoid.
Is there something I can do to get rid of the clicking sound? It sounds like the key is hitting a piece of wood almost and one cannot get away with it by just living with it.
Of course I am trying to think of a simple quick solution but I am not experienced it the player systems.

    Thank you

Is there a felt pad on the bottom of the keystick at the plunger?

I suggest you contact QRS/Pianomation and/or contact someone in your area who is certified in QRS/Pianomation installs and repairs. Depending on the age of the system it may need software updates, recalibration, action regulation, new pads or solenoid tips. Its not always possible to get all of the noise out and as systems are played they beat on felts etc. You should have the model and serial numbers off the player unit and processor box when you talk to anyone and you should also test the system fully to make sure it plays properly. Over time the felts in these systems get compacted and noisy including front key pin punchings.

Depending on the age of the system you may need a test box known as the knob box

The system is at least 15 years old and I am not sure if it can get an upgrade but I will contact them.
    Thank you.

Hi Victor.  If I'm not mistaken, this noise is occurring as you play the piano manually.  There's supposed to be a 1mm clearance between the under key felt and the plunger tip as I recall.

If plunger tips are getting hard with age that may be where the noise is coming from.  As Jon suggested, there's supposed to be a felt pad between the under side of the key and the plunger.  If the rubber tips are getting hard they may be clicking on the metal push rod of the plunger.

If the player is no longer used, have a QRS player technician lower the mechanism sufficiently so as to clear the keys enough to eliminate the noise.  This can be done inside the enclosure.  You could accomplish this yourself .......  it's not that involved.

Thank you Larry. I might investigate how I can do that.

The entire solenoid rail is suspended from the underside of the keybed by two brackets.  It weighs quite a bit.  The brackets are slotted so as to facilitate this adjustment.  Um .........  3/8ths hex head I think.  My knee is just high enough to hold the assembly as I make this adjustment one side at a time.  TAking the pedal lyre out of the way makes things a lot easier.  Now days I have to wait until I'm IN THE RIGHT MOOD to tackle this job.  Good luck.
