  • 1.  Start on Lowest Tenor Note

    I see Cybertuner has an option to start on the lowest tenor note for a tuning. Why would starting on the lowest tenor note be something one would do?

    I'm curious.

    I use a Verituner and start at the low tenor (end of the long bridge) with a previously recorded tuning file. It helps to distribute the tension across the bridge. On a new tuning. A4, then A3 to the top. Then G#3 to A0.  For a wholesale pitch correction, I start at A0 to C8 with overpull proportional to the section.

    I too use Verituner. I've tried it every which way: start with A0, start at low tenor, start in high treble. Frankly, I haven't found it to matter. 
    The problem is that every piano is a little different, so you can't really run an objective experiment. It's like overpull: Some pianos need this percentage, some need that.

    Hi Cobrun,

    With RCTs pitch correction system you want to move from one end of a bridge to the other. I sometimes use this feature when I'm working on a completely off pitch piano. Tune the tenor bridge, then you can work on the bass with some aural reference. Especially in the very low bass on poorly scaled pianos, it's easy to get lost.

    I concur with Nate.  CyberTuner is optimized to go from the lowest string on a bridge to the highest string on that bridge.  You can do the bridges in either order.  When I started tuning with CyberTuner, I liked listening to descending bass intervals, 10ths and 17ths.  Now CyberTuner is so well tweaked and I am so used to using it, that I trust that it will sound alright at the end.  I now listen to ascending 17ths and ascending 1,1,5,1,5 arpeggios and clusters to confirm that the tuning is dead on
