Part 1
Last Tuesday my 94 year old client called and said that after thinking about it for a few years he really wanted to have the new hammers shanks and flanges I had quoted for him. Even though the calendar tells me that the time of year for major repairs has past I really didn't want to put this client off until next summer. It turned out that I had three days left in the schedule when I could do the job but I'd need the parts right away. I called
Brooks Ltd and told
John Gallen what I needed which of course included some oddball parts and specs. One week later the parts were on the piano and it plays and sounds better that it has in many decades. Thank you
Brooks Ltd.
Part 2
Around 8 PM on Tuesday this week I got an email from the tour manager for a famous musician asking if I could provide new strings on E2 for their touring Steinway. They would be at my venue in Ft. Lauderdale on Thursday. I told him that I'd be happy to try but that I'd need to know what model of Steinway they were traveling with. Naturally he had no idea. About 10AM Wednesday it was confirmed that it was a model B. I called
Mapes and
Andy said that while they didn't have any in inventory at the moment he'd be able to make them and send them out overnight. They were on my front porch by 10 AM Thursday and on the piano by 2 PM. Thank you
Mapes.
So often the extraordinary service our suppliers provide our industry goes unremarked upon. Today I wanted it to be noticed.
