I came across an early Petrof grand that could be quite nice if it were to be rebuilt. In its present condition it is extremely flat - so flat in fact it is beyond the lower limit of the SAT III which is 198.8 cents. Tuning pin torque is 20 - 30 inch lbs. One option would be to use CA just to raise the torque, option 2 would be to go up a pin size and restring and option 3 would be a new block and removing the plate etc. There is no way to examine if there are cracks in the block from below. There is a solid piece of wood that has a finish on it that goes the entire length of the block. I am not sure if the real block sits above this or if it is the block. Even though the cheap fix is CA I am not sure its what should be done. The bass strings are quite tubby and dead but could come up if some of them are treated as a test or the pins are backed out and I move up a pin size.
Any suggestions would be helpful. I have treated over 100 pianos both grands and uprights with thin CA very successfully . Because this is a grand and I can not see the underside of the block I am concerned . Of course I know how to remove pins and drive them in supporting the block and have done it.
