    Oops wrong post. 

    But now here.  Have a client with some gooey something on his music desk.

    Would mineral spriits take it off?  0000 steel wool?

    Hi Paul:
    If the surface is polyester, anything can be used. Gummy stuff usually comes off with mineral spirits. Be careful with Goof-Off, which would probably work, but I used it on a plastic keytop, and it melted it.

    My vote is mineral spirits. Won't melt lacquer. You may need to rub it out afterwards with steel wool, or fine pumice with water and sponge. I wouldn't rub it out unless the goo is gone, or you'll smear it everywhere.
