Broadwood lyre bolts

    Hi all,
A customer was gifted a Broadwood grand that I believe to be from 1895 (#44604). The lyre has 3 mounting elements: positioning dowels and a cam that are present and functioning, but missing bolts. A metal receptor is clearly visible 3" into each of the two bolt holes, and the lyre thickness indicates I need something about 6" long.
Before I venture to a hardware store, can anyone recommend what thickness of bolt should work, and whether a modern threading is likely to work? I'd guess the diameter to be .5" or less.
    thanks!

I would guess that the threads are metric or Whitworth.  Bring the nut to the store.
Until 1971, Kawai used Whitworth fasteners on the legs and lyre: 1/2" x 12 tpi.
If it's metric, it's probbly 12 mm x whatever tpi (current Kawai is 12 mm x 1.75 tpi).

Hello Scott - If you remove the action you will gain access to the two small 'plates' with the tapped hole in a recess of the Action Bed and secured in place by two No.12 (or so) slot-head screws. So you can remove one and take to your local hardware store with the length of bolt required. The diameter of the hole in the Lyre plate will show you what size the bolt should be. Of course, if you know a model engineer locally they would be able to make you a couple! You may thank your lucky stars you're not looking for a wooden thread such as Broadwoods use for their legs. Then you'd be looking for someone with a Holtzapfel lathe!! Been there - Done that!    Michael G.  UK
