    Cocacola. No kidding. I took rust off my old truck bumper. It will dissolve a galvanized nail over night! Imagine what it does to your insides?!!

     

    I also used it when I worked at a marina summers during my summers to unclog uninals. You never know what drunk boaters do???

    Muriatic acid. This is a common ingredient used in swimming pools. Next time you dive into a swimming pool, remember, you are swimming in chlorine and muriatic acid.
    Keep in mind when using muriatic acid -- it is very caustic. Use caution -- wear rubber gloves and don't place your face above the pan of acid; you'll burn the hairs in your nose. Immerse the caster for only a few seconds -- maybe 30 to 60 seconds depending upon the strength of the acid. Rinse with water after immersion.  You should be able to purchase it at some hardware stores. I suggest you read up on muriatic acid to understand its strengths and uses.

    Hi Bob,
    I had some of those as well. 
    I used a small hammer and gently tapped on the casters for a while and then stayed it with wd-40 and put some machine oil on the shaft, then kept tapping some more.
    In my case, the wheel got unstuck and I was able to disassemble the caster, clean off the rust and make it work like new again.
    Sometimes I have just bought a new set of casters to save me a lot of work.

    The best rust remover is Evapo-Rust. Just clean off any oil and loose rust and cover the parts in a jar or bucket. The liquid can be re-used. I use it for old car parts. It leaves the metal looking almost like new. Afterward, you slowly work the wheels free and apply some oil.
