Upgrading the controller may provide some more whistles and bells but won't really make the job easier. Plus, the DKV-850 upgrade is no longer available. So, the simple answer is no. No, I take that back. Yes.
Solution one is to copy all of the songs currently stored on the DKV hard drive onto any sort of drive you can plug in to the LAN port and access. I don't remember if the MK3 has a USB port, but if it does then just copy everything on to a thumb drive. Next, do a delete-all of all the songs stored on the hard drive. Then, just copy back what you want to keep from the stored copy.
Solution two would be to create a playlist of the 40 songs desired to be saved. DKV songs are all MIDI files and, therefore, take up incredibly little space. If the customer is concerned about disk space there is no reason to worry about running out of disk storage space. Anyhway, then just access the playlist of songs instead of the entire library.
If the customer still has the user manual all of this is in there. If the customer does not have the user manual then contact Yamaha tech support for the internet address of the download site and just grab a fresh copy.

Subject: Yamaha Disklavier Mark III question
Customer has a 2007 Yamaha GC1 Grand Disklavier Mark III Controller KDC60RCD with CD with several hundred songs saved and wants to cull that down to 40. Any suggestions on how he can do that without manually deleting each song? Would an upgrade controller make this a simpler task? Is there a way to do that using midi connections?
Thanks!
