I need to regulate and re-weigh  a 2001 C3 Disklavier grand action.  Can someone fill me in on removing the electronics from the action stack?  I have no problem pulling the action out of the piano.  Thanks.  Gary Ford

Hi Gary, did you find out how to remove the player system from the action? I'm having to do some regulation/repair on a Yamaha CFX with a Disklavier and am trying to figure out how to take the hammer shutter rail off without screwing anything up.

Yamaha Corp. was totally useless, no help at all.  First of all make sure you have the thing unplugged!  Disconnect the data cable I think on treble end.  Action is out. There are screws on top  that are a little bit colored yellow.  My action says remove yellow screws, I wasn't so sure which ones as they really didn't look different, maybe yours do.  Just looking at it, the ones I removed seemed to be the right ones and  they were.  It has been too long. I can't remember where the screws were.

Removing the hammer sensor rail is easy. Just four screws and the whole thing lifts right off. Be extraordinarily careful with the optic gray scale flags on the hammers and the keys. Don't touch them. Don't bend them. Don't use any Teflon powder around them. They are extremely sensitive to those kind of things.

If you have not worked on Disklaviers before you should do yourself a favor and contact Yamaha tech support and have them provide some guidance and the tech support manuals. The manuals can be downloaded from their FTP site for free but you need them to point you to them.

Fortunately there are no tricks to regulating the action on a Disklavier. A couple of extra tests you need to make around the jack toe but only to make sure the quite mode is working correctly. You MUST know how to properly adjust the pedals and how to run a full calibration when you have it all back together.

I would defer it to another technician that works on a Disklavier and is certified/trained and experienced. Once you touch it you own it. In regard to where screws go its always a good idea to make a sketch, take pictures on your iphone or ipad and use a piece of cardboard or a styrofoam block to place screws in and labeled where they came from. This is especially true on action frame legs, bottoms of pedal boxes, hammer flange screws etc

BTW- ALWAYS test a player system regardless of brand before you work on it if it involves action work, pedal work. If it does not play after you service the piano you may get into a cat fight that it worked before you touched it.
