    List,
I have a client who is missing a front leg on their ebony 1950 S&S 'M' Grand after
    a cross country move.
Attached ( I hope ) are pics showing the style.
If someone has such an item as surplus I would appreciate you contacting me off list.
The client is willing to pay and I will pass your contact info onto them.
    Finish is not critical.
    Dimensions as follows:
22 ¾ inches in height (not including caster),  16"length and 3 3/8 inches in width.
    Thank you,
    Fenton

Aren't the movers liable for this?

One would assume they would be, Jon.
Update: I am still looking for a leg.
Attached hopefully is a pic, finish not a concern but ebony would be nice.

I've never seen a Steinway with as long of a spade-end as that. Is it a "real" Steinway?  There are some counterfeits out there.
    >Maybe it's the angle the photo was taken and the caster seems disproportionately large.
    >>I enlarged the photo and the spade seems to be too long for a Steinway.

I'm not sure Jon. I'm helping someone out of town over the phone.
I've not seen the piano and without another M leg in front of me I don't know.
Looks Steinway to me except a bit tall which might be the photo as you stated.
I'm reasonably certain the 2 legged beast is a Steinway.

I measured a few S&S's in my shop and their legs measure around 22" (not inc. caster).
The length of the 'capital' is 18" and its width is 3 ¾".

Instead of guessing look to see what the plate stampings are, if there is a decal on the soundboard and check the serial number to the Piano Atlas. You are looking for a 70-71 part and maybe leg plates unique to 1950's. This project could get quite expensive and may be time consuming. There are pianos out there with fancy, expensive fallboards that have Steinway & Sons on them. The name on the plate was not S & S and all of the legs where fancy curved legs in the Chippendale style. The piano needs to be seen and evaluated- the owner may be clueless. Usually the mover is on the hook often using an adjuster who then contacts a local tech for a report.  Somewhere there must be a a large warehouse with missing benches, bolts, legs, music desks, lyres, pedal support braces, leg screws, fall boards. What a goldmine that would be......

Well Fellas, Looking close at the photo I have to agree, no telling what exactly is going on.
Maybe the movers left him the wrong legs, for all I know.
Your diligence is appreciated, not much I can do without having the piano in front of me, it is out of my area.
At this point I am withdrawing my request for a 'M' leg. I believe he is now in contact with an onsite tech so perhaps
the truth will come out, and this piano can finally lie down. If and when I do find out what's up, I'll report in.
    Thank you.

Good call, Fenton. Given two head scratching details:
    • No info about why the movers aren't involved, and
    • the odd dimensions of the leg,
…… I was waiting for the party to ask if you would buy them a leg and have it drop shipped. But Occam's Razor slices right through that improbable scenario.

Yes, I'm not quite ready to file this under 'No good deed goes unpunished'
I'm hoping to be able to help bring this to conclusion, but I need more info.
A lawyer would have billed 4 hours by now.
I'm out of town for the weekend and will take another stab at this when I return.
Some more pics of the piano which I understand is wrapped on it's side as left by the movers.
The leg plate and top plate of the leg look very S&S to me.
I will get sn if possible .
