Maybe the movers left him the wrong legs, for all I know.

At this point I am withdrawing my request for a 'M' leg. I believe he is now in contact with an onsite tech so perhaps

Instead of guessing look to see what the plate stampings are, if there is a decal on the soundboard and check the serial number to the Piano Atlas. You are looking for a 70-71 part and maybe leg plates unique to 1950's. This project could get quite expensive and may be time consuming. There are pianos out there with fancy, expensive fallboards that have Steinway & Sons on them. The name on the plate was not S & S and all of the legs where fancy curved legs in the Chippendale style. The piano needs to be seen and evaluated- the owner may be clueless. Usually the mover is on the hook often using an adjuster who then contacts a local tech for a report. Somewhere there must be a a large warehouse with missing benches, bolts, legs,music desks, lyres, pedal support braces, leg screws, fall boards. What a goldmine that would be......

I measured a few S&S's in my shop and their legs measure around 22" (not inc. caster).
The length of the 'capital' is 18" and its width is 3 ¾".

I've not seen the piano and without another M leg in front of me I don't know.
Looks Steinway to me except a bit tall which might be the photo as you stated.
I'm reasonably certain the 2 legged beast is a Steinway.
