Farewell

For about 25 years, Pianotech, CAUT and PTG-L were a source of education, encouragement and community for me.
Since I am retired from piano service, I have no need of these lists, other than the sense of connection with my colleagues.
That connection brings me little joy these days, so I am withdrawing from the online communities.
With deep gratitude for you who have helped me have a rewarding career,
    Farewell,
    Ed

    Ed:

I certainly sympathize with the thoughts expressed. Social media has its place, but isn't suited to making political points or even basic truths. But that hasn't stopped us from trying, and, ending up building thicker/taller walls.

A lot of stuff can only be debated face to face. And, even then people need time for ideas to percolate, for new expressions to be created, and conversations to be renewed face to face. Truth doesn't lend itself to a one-time rant. Truth can be so slippery; politics is a bunker.

Events over the past few decades have not lent themselves to calm. Anxiety is too often with me and I seek relief, often without success. I'm sad to lose your experience and insight.

    Bummer!!!...

Ed, I absolutely loved your editorials every month...they were the high point of the journal for me...

I hope you leave some space in your retirement to mess around with hair-brained piano geek thoughts...just for the jolly's of it...and hope to see you sometime in the future whether piano related or not...thanks for all your contributions!

    Mr. Sutton,
First off;Thank you.Your contributions to our organization and our profession are equal to or greater than some of the great names in PTG history. It's a tragedy that our group discourse has devolved to the point that you feel the need to leave. I fear you will not be the last  to feel that way.

and that you don't leave the scene entirely. Remembering our early days and

    Dear Ed

As someone who's been around for only a short time, your contributions thoughts and guidance have been appreciated. Younger people really need what I call "white haired knowledge" of long experience and you've given such inspirations. Please don't retire too hard.

    Best wishes

    David P

I have always read, eagerly, anything you've written. Thank you so much.

I have also been concerned about the loss of knowledge tied up in experience. The internet, with all it's downsides, has allowed us to share and glean some of that knowledge. I find it valuable.

Again many thanks, Nancy Salmon, RPT

    Ed,

Even with all of our current warts, you have left the PTG a better organization than where you found it. The Journal had great years under your stewardship.  And you even solicited and edited my articles into finished products  Thank you for all that you have contributed and you will be forever enshrined in our Hall of Fame.

    Ed,

I admired the sense of balance and wisdom that you provided to the PTG.  Without you PTG will loose a deep well of knowledge.

I, and hopefully others will try to step into your boots, but they were large.

    You will be missed.
