  • 1.  Late 19th Century Steinway A - Cabinet Question

I am working with a c. 1892 Steinway A on which the stiffener on the front lid has apparently had screws relocated at some time in the past. I'm pretty sure I have more screw holes than were originally there -- some are empty.  Does anybody out there have a photo of a properly configured lid stiffener, so that I can restore this to the original set-up?  I could make a reasonably intelligent guess, but more information is better.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Floyd, I have a customer with a 19th century Steinway A (I think the long one) which was rebuilt by Steinway about 25 years ago. I can ask her to let me come and take photos if you like. My guess is it's about 1895.

Is this what you are asking about?  The photo is from an 1887 Steinway A.
