I was called to a historic hotel that is being restored to its original glory and was asked to look at their recently acquired square grand.  It is a Woodward & Brown (1851).  The owner is interested in restoration, but this is just the brainstorming stage.  I have two initial questions.

The first:  Does someone sell hammer sets for a square grand?  I don't know if this piano has ever had work done to it, but just casually it appeared that the hammers were felt and noticeably eaten with chunks missing.  No aromatic or other visual evidence of mice.

The second:  Does someone sell pedal sets?  Unfortunately the two pedals and rods are missing.  The lyre is there, but I could not tell just from the lyre how the pedals were attached.  It's possible that something else is missing here as well.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions other abandoning the project.

Hammers: call Ray Negron at Ronsen, he duplicates square hammers or rather hammers for squares.

    A project well worth doing.

On hammers can you photograph one from the bass, one from the midrange and one from the treble?

Pedals - these are often missing from squares . . . and one simply has to fit something most appropriate as best one can.

There's an increasing amount of european (I assume) expertise on a couple of Facebook groups.

    Best wishes

Hello Arlie. As Jim mentioned - Ronsen for the hammers. I've rebuilt several square grands and have found them to be rewarding projects. I also just happen to have an abandoned Woodward & Brown square in my shop - or at least some of it. I wouldn't hold your breath, but it is possible I have the pedals. If I can be any sort of resource of information on the square grand rebuilding process, I'd be happy to do what I can. Attached are a couple photos of the last square that passed through my shop a few years ago.....
