  • 1.  microphone for I 6 cell phone

    I am an aural tuner and have lost the the ability to hear the last 8va .  I have and i phone 6 and am looking for a good mike to run cleartune app.  anybody got any suggestions?

    Robert, before you add an external mic, try the built in. It works fine.

    I've used iphones since the first one for tuning, and never needed an external mic. I just looked up Cleartune on the App Store, and I think that is the source of your difficulty. It is a guitar tuner, and no guitar can play that high, so the software doesn't need to deal with it. You need to invest in dedicated piano tuning software, e.g. CyberTuner, VeriTuner, or TuneLab. They do all cost more than Cleartune, though.

    You might want to recheck your phone, my Veritune works fine with the internal mics on the iPod and iPad. Those top notes decay really fast so it can be harder to get the reading, I put the device close to that section when tuning. I generally move my device, iPod, around as I work my way up so I can keep it in my line of sight. 
    I do have an external mic with a cable that I can move around (clipped to a magnet) but I don't use it much.

    The benefit of the IMM-6 with the Verituner is that the needle does not jump around so much in the last half octave. I use it with a cable because I can place the mic in the best listening position while keeping the screen in the best viewing position.

    I have used the cable from Dayton Audio but after a while the thin cable broke where it exits the plug
    I'm now trying a thicker cable from Monoprice, PID: 5586.
    I also use a 90° plug adaptor on the phone for a little flexibility.

    Hi Robert, I highly recommend Tune Lab. I still use it a lot of times in the treble & high treble on a lot of pianos. It's fantastic for some concert touch-ups, etc. So it seems it would be a pretty ideal supplement to your ear in the area you can't hear as well in. Also super affordable at just a little over 300 bucks. I would call them though if when you purchase. You can probably save the sales tax. If you buy through Apple's App Store, you will definitely have to pay California sales tax. (I learned this on the Rayburn! 😩😩)
