There are a number of products you can toss in a tool drawer, tool case, tackle box etc to prevent rust . They are a lot easier to use then paper which is meant more for wrapping and long term storage..Look in some wood working supply catalogs, tool catalogs, Lee Valley Tools, West Marine Boating Store . I took my broaches and reamers out of the cloth pouch and have them stuck into a very high density foam block. I was tired of snagging them in the cloth and then shedding blood.I live in a high humidity state on the coast and flash rusting can do extensive damage. All of my tools are in some type of box/container including plastic ammo boxes. All my music wire is in the bags they came in that have little rust blocking chips and stored in a large roll about tool box with two locking lids.
The oils in your fingers may be reacting with the wire so clean the wires after use. You can get some sponge sanding blocks to store the broaches in and then swipe them off on the grit after use

Subject: Rust on flange bushing broaches
For some reason my broaches keep getting rust on them. I keep them in the cloth case they came in. I use emery paper to sand off the rust and I've tried coating them with oil but they still get rusty. This is especially annoying when the rust is in the active area of the broach. Anyone else have that problem AND especially has someone found a good solution for it?
