The doctor mentions that tinnitus is primarily caused by stress. I can attest to that. There are days when I'm stressed out to the max, and the bissing is distuerbing. But there have been days when I feel very relaxed and life seems to be good, and  I notice that there is no bizzing in my ear. If I can just figure out how to relax more, my life would be better and quieter.

How many service calls, or tunings, do you do in a day? Do you actually need to do that many? Try cutting it down by one and learn to sleep in once in a while, or get home early once in a while. Trust me. From personal experience I know that it helps a lot!

    Hi Geoff.

    Work less or stress more.

I work hard so that I can afford to live here and put away money for retirement. I've been working at this pace all my life. But if I work less, I will be stressed that I can't afford to live here and retire this summer.

    Happy Holidays.

The video went on and on, so I gave up. However, a couple of thoughts:
    1. I've experienced tinnitus, so I know the frustration. It has come and gone, and I think simply saying it's a result of "stress" is simplistic and not especially helpful. What is "stress" anyway? Does anyone live without stress? My understanding is that it's more complicated, that tinnitus may be a result of the brain manufacturing sounds, especially as a result of hearing loss.
    2. Maybe I'm being a little elitist here, but I'm a little irritated by this guy's use of the label "chiropractic neurologist." Is that even a thing? I say that as the only male in two generations not to have become... a neurologist. Maybe that guy Joseph Epstein should weigh in on whether people like this should actually be calling themselves "Dr." this or that.

Certainly I call my Chiropractor Dr. Moffat. The title Dr refer to a person with extensive study in certain areas. Any Chiropractor who hasn't studied and doesn't understand the neurological aspects of the practice,, is a Quack. It's the same Quackery as a "Medical" Dr that prescribes pills from the pharmaceutical book of recommendations. A basic pill pusher.
Neuro Chiropractor is how I see them advertised. The Physical Therapist that was hired to spend a day with my yoga teacher training class said Chiropractors call it adjustments, PT's call it manipulation.
So a Chiropractic Neurologist would be a Neurologist that uses adjustments and not manipulation because the Neuro Chiro does the manipulation himself instead of prescribing.
There is a little tongue in cheek as it's like using E# to say F,,,,,,,,

I'm still waiting for something definitive from trusted sources. My audiologist says nothing yet but that what Dr. Susan Shore is studying at U of MI is promising.

My tinnitus got its start in Thailand listening to wave after wave of B-52s taking off and landing close by. It has gotten worse since then, but that was the start.

I've seen any number of these 'cures' promoted over the decades. None of them have any track record of having worked over the long haul. Certainly none of them have stood up to serious examination and testing. They sound great in the video but that's about it.

They may be interesting to read about (or listen to) but check with a medical professional before sending anyone any money.

    Wow a real scale ruler,,
In layman's terms, that how I was speaking.
Not many know there is a difference and if they know,, they don't know exactly.
Besides,, for the purposes of a piano,, E# is an F because you can only tune a compromise. When you play the note called for, E# or F,,, there is only one frequency that occurs for both notes because you strike the same key for both notes.
It is not a fretless instrument

Yes - this is a Monochord. It was originally fitted with three strings and the collection from which I purchased it contained items from Helmholtz's estate. One half is marked with a Just Intonation scale and the other half is marked in Equal Temperament. It was with monochords that many instruments were tuned before the days of beat-counting or electronic devices.

These are the cents for all the intervals indicated:
    0.0

    1088.3

I think the issue is all of these things can have different sources.  There is hearing loss due to damage from drugs, exposure to loud noise, genetics, old age, there's vertigo resulting from BPPV (ear crystals), Ménière's disease (someone close to me has this), acoustic neuromas, types of migraines.  The causes and treatments are varied and complicated and sometimes there's just no truly effective cure or reliable treatment.  Nearly 500 million people worldwide have disabling hearing loss and it seems unlikely that yoga or chiropractic treatment is the answer hidden in plain sight.  Most tinnitus (90% from various sources) is from exposure to loud noises and damage to the sound sensing cells in the cochlea.  That's not going to be fixed by yoga or chiropractics, which isn't to say they don't have other benefits.  But anyone selling their cures on youtube is immedicately suspect, IMO.  Waste of bandwidth.  Prevention is the best cure.  Protect your hearing.

There's a lot of research being done using stem cells to restore cilia in the cochlea. It's really promising but slower going than hoped.

What I noticed was that the doctor doing the "show" never said that he was cured, or even gave a % of improvement (at least that I remember...someone correct me if I'm wrong). It was just all smiles and "I'm so glad you're doin this, man..."

The other doc seemed a lot more serious and down to earth, even expressing his initial skepticism.

I wouldn't write it off but I would need a bit more corroborative information before trying it. I do have tinnitus (not really bad, but it's there). Does not affect my tuning work or anything really, but if it got worse...well...

    Wim,

Your comments about stress and working do not help your effort to find someone to move to Hawaii to take over your business. They would probably need to raise your rates at least 75%. That might not go over too well.  Just sayin.

The use of lasers in the treatment of inner ear problems has been independently studied:

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3658799/

From this article it appears that there may be some benefit, but only in about half the cases.  More independent confirmation is needed.
