    Hello.
Does anyone have a source for hex socket head bolts that would go on a Samick grand SGI-50?  I've also seen them on Wurlitzer grands.  I'll try to attach a photo.  I need to replace two of them because that thread ends are stripped.

    Thanks very much.
    Robert

There are several places on-line you can try however see if there is a Fastenal store near you. They have come through several times for me in the past. Bolt Depot.com; Grainger.com may be able to help. Keep in mind that the threads are likely metric. We used to have an awesome old time hardware store here called Schofield Hardware. You could go in the place hand over bolts, screws, inserts etc , They would disappear and re-appear in minutes . You could spend all day in the place and never find what you needed. Man do I miss that place.  While you are at it purchase at least 6 or even a dozen

How about using a die or thread file to straighten the threads out?

Many auto parts stores sell bolts.
You might even get lucky in an ace hardware store. They carry a complete line of all screws and bolts, even stainless

James is right in target. I've picked them up at Fastenal multiple times (metric thread - sorry that I don't have the dice on me) when I don't have a lending order with Samick.

    Stay well,

If the bolts are stripped, chances are that the fastener is also stripped. You need to determine the size and tpi. They may be 12 mm x 1.75 or Whitworth ½" x 12, depending on the age. You might be able to save the fasteners with a tap.

If you order the pair, bolt and fastener, from Samick; you'll be insured of a mate. Hopefully they will match the others.
    I have bolts and fasteners for a Kawai, 12 mm x 1.75.

If you wish for them sooner than later, ACE Hardware has a huge selection of metric bolts - just about every size and shape under the sun (or fluorescent lights...).

    Robert,

Just go to your local auto parts/tool store.  It'll be cheap and fast.

At first blush I somehow read that you were looking for a socket, not the bolt. I have had good luck finding various socket bolts at Napa auto. They have been able to get them fairly quickly.

    Robert,

From your photo it is a ½"x 12 British Whitworth. Samick and all their current products use this British Whitworth bolt. You will not find these bolts in any hardware store. You will need to order them from Samick.

Leave it to the Brits to still have this oddball thread on the books...greater strength through inconvenience...the national motto.

I had never heard of British Whitworth before. Just looked it up...am I correct that the difference is just the major and minor diameters?

If anyone has any interest, I wrote a bit about Whitworth threads back on March 28 & 30, 2020 in a thread about Broadwood lyre bolts in CAUT.  It may not apply much to this tread but does contain some technical info.

Thank you all for your responses.  I wrote to Samick once but didn't hear back, hence the post here.  I'll try again.
