Spanberger, my Congress representative suggested to apply for Disaster Loan from Small Business Administration as I asked her about government for small business assistance during pandemic. Their website not responding at all. Anybody has any suggestions ?

You might want to try SBA's website at 3 am in the mornings. Regular hours they are probably swamped with so many business who are crashing their site.

    Hi Alexander,

My Assembly Representative reaches out with the same offer. My personal thought is that it's a really, really, REALLY stupid idea. One should NOT take a loan if you have no income coming in for an indefinite length of time. It will end up putting you deeper into a hole, not help you out.

My business has been able to set aside retained earnings (rainy day fund) that will get me though this next month. If this shutdown goes on for much longer than that, I'll start looking for other work. Driving for GrubHub or UberEats, going back to blowing leaves and picking weeds (something that's still allowed in my county), repairing and storing watches, anything. Amazon just announced hiring nearly 100k people to keep up with the increased demand for packages.

My clients understand that these are hard times for small business people. They would understand if they were to see me on the side of the road pulling weeds. Trust me, it would be temporary. I don't like yard work or excessive driving, and want to return to piano work as soon as possible. But we do what we have to do.

I hope this is helpful. I don't want to disparage anyone who signs up for the program, but I just don't see it ending well.

Now, if they pass legislation making it a grant rather than a loan, that's a different story. I'd be in favor of it then.
