Finally broke down and purchased a new tuning lever from Tom Driscoll.  What a difference!   I'd been using an old extension lever from one of the supply houses since the '80's.   Never paid too much attention possibly needing an upgrade.  This new lever is much lighter (carbon fiber), better balanced, more rigid.  Feel and control of the tuning pin is greatly enhanced over my previous lever.  Additionally, I can move the lever from pin to pin much more quickly and without the assistance of my other hand.  Setting the pin is accomplished in much less time. From what I can tell after about a month's use; it appears to be cutting somewhere around 20-30 minutes from my tuning times.  Wish I'd done it long ago.  Thanks Tom!

I bought a new "ergonomic" lever at a convention a couple of years ago.  After more than two years I still look forward to tuning with it and my old lever is painful compared to this one.

I did need to get a new tool kit to carry it in, though that was a blessing itself.  My slimmed down kit is easier to carry into large apartment complexes or schools or up flights of stairs.

I did something similar with my bike.  I didn't know what I was missing until I tried a better one, now the old bicycle is painful to ride.
