Steinway B string loops

I normally take notes and pics (when destringing) of single loop wires for reference when I restring. For some reason I failed to do this (or misplaced it...this piano has been in process for a long time now). This is a B, and the current question is about the 5 unisons of 19 gauge wire inside the little circle. Can anyone tell me the standard location of the single loop in here?  It should be either the first unison or the last. (I think I know but I want to be sure).

    Thx

Not sure if this piano had been restrung. 1980's B  If restrung, was done very well prior to my getting here to UofSC.

One thing that makes me think it was restrung is that the tuning pins are extra tight and hard to tune.

Without restringing (on a side question) how do yall get the pins less tight without restringing?

String will show if the backscale is parallel to the SL.

For 'loosening' pins, turn them a half-turn multiple times, back and forth, until desired torque is achieved. This technique uses the pin as a reamer.  There was a thread on this not too long ago.

I followed Jon's advise on a piano with torque readings so high they were off-the-chart, and it really worked. Made an extra long lever by combining several Fujan shafts and toggled back and forth from one arm to another. Have since read that some rebuilders deliberately start out with too-high pin torque and bring it down this way.

Put yet another star by Jon Page's name!

Hi Peter, my 1979 Steinway B has the single loop on the top string of the notes in the circle: note B2. Factory original.

Peter, I agree with Pat.  My memory was telling me that the topmost hitchpin should be a single loop before he made his comment.  Everything after that looped.

Looking at the picture of the circle above doesn't give you much faith, as it is a truly bad stringing job.

    Pat and Will,

Yes, I agree on all counts. My gut feeling was that it should be the last one (top) with the single on the "inside". Interestingly though, I  found my notes and they say "single string note 27" (which is the bottom note as in Paul's picture). This piano was also restrung once before (and not a great job).

I'm puttin it on the top! Final answer!

    Thx!

P.S. I think this B is going to turn out to be one of the all time best I've ever seen and played. I can hear it already even though there are only two unisons of wire on it.
