When I first got into this work, I was looking for a "sound" that for some reason I knew existed, but had never heard in any pianos I met. Drove me nuts is an understatement. Numerous PTG luminaires suggested there was maybe something wrong with my ears...really...
I heard the sound I already knew existed, for the first time, in David's tunings. For that, I am deeply, deeply grateful. I went about it differently than he did, but arrived at a very similar place. I told him, finally hearing the sound that I wanted to hear, I said "hey maybe I'm not crazy after all"....but then, ribbing him, said, "ahhh...well maybe we are both just good company in the looney factory".
I am very sorry to hear about his death...poor soul fought hard for the last few years.

Thanks, Alan, for the information about David Anderson. I guess I missed a previous email announcement.
I appreciated David for his staunch advocacy of aural tuning and solid commitment to keeping aural temperament tuning as a core value in PTG.

It's not being stated here but I read on a FB post that David had passed away in death. Can anyone confirm this?
I really liked him and benefited from his teaching and attitude.

Thank you, Fenton Murray, for sharing how David Andersen influenced you and your work.
I met David Andersen exactly once, in Tucson 2019. Here was David, a technician at the top of his game, sharing his knowledge without pretense, without gate-keeping, without glossing over the messy bits.
David, who spoke openly about the inner-critic and working at the craft's top-end, had a message that I needed to hear. He set the bar high for himself, without apology, and was - IS - an inspiration to so many.
David Andersen: A deeply humane person.

Big DA
David Andersen helped me find out what I was searching for
as a piano technician, and as a human being.
I met David over 20 years ago and slowly began to realize
who he was and what he was teaching me.
'I am the master and the humble apprentice, lead or leave.'
In a life time of tuning I've never used a computer, as the
world began to change, I began to feel low tech and old school and irrelevant,
'the negative voice In my head'.
David demonstrates, in a room full of techs, the wonderful process
of whole tone tuning in such a beautiful effortless way.
I began single mute tuning, something I thought impossible for
me.
When my son began tuning you inspired him more than anyone,
'Home Slice' you called him.
Thank you for showing me, David, what a beautiful artform aural
tuning is, that it is a spiritual experience.
You truly are a teacher and a master.
Fenton Murray, RPT
