Attached is a photo of what I'm calling a sideways knuckle. My question is : how do you use the Nuckljac to regulate jacks with this kind of knuckle? I tried to email Richard Salamone and that bounced, the phone number is now answered by an Hispanic with no English and the website takes you to a Chinese soccer page. So, I suspect Richard is long gone.   Thanks,

    Sheffey,

I would say forget the contraption and just find a spot that works and doesn't cheat and put them all there. I have always gone for as close to 90° as I can get.

Yes, Scheffey, sadly, Richard passed away a couple years ago.  The Nukljac is designed for a "standard" knuckle and won't work for this type of shank/knuckle arrangement.  He developed this jig, and others, when we shared a shop.

I would suggest regulating the jack on some end and middle whippens as samples. To help with the rest stretch a white thread across all the whips in a section to help you zero in on the best knuckle/jack adjustment. Due to the wear and compaction of both the knuckle and the jack felt you will need to make some tweaks. Be sure to check the actions center on the jacks, clean the knuckle buckskin, burnish the jack top, apply some teflon powder to knuckle. Done right the action will play like greased lightening

Thanks to everyone who posted. <If> i get the job, I'll have to allow extra time for the jack regulation, since it's bound to take longer that using the Nuckljac :)
Sorry to hear about Richard's passing.

    Sheffey -
While I've never used the NucklJac tool, I don't see why it should take any longer to do it the way James Kelly basically suggested.  In fact, unless I'm missing something significant, it would seem to be doable in less time, if using the tool requires that you mount it next to each jack you're regulating.  For sure, there'll be some tweaking, but if you were to start with a line defined by the facing edge of the knuckle core, and then modify one or more sample jack positions towards the front of the keyboard until you find the point at which the jack can be made to cheat, then you have the 'window of reasonable jack placement.   You seem to be letting what you interpret as a 'sideways knuckle' throw you.  It's no different than a 'normal' knuckle.  Find the workable position, make a line, and move them to the line.  Then you can get nuanced after that.
I'll acknowledge if you prove me mistaken.
