What hip devices are out there these days that can prevent a grand fallboard from falling too easily. Any suggestions on what will work on not-so-new pianos?

Go to Amazon and do a search for "piano fallboard slow close". Dozens to choose from. They work.

I am not sure where you can get it but I have seen something that has a mini hydraulic shock absorber that is mounted on the hinge side of the piano rim. This was on a Baldwin Artist Grand piano. I took pictures but it may have been something made by Schimmel . A number of grands have slow closing fall boards but this is the first time I saw one with the shock absorber device

Jurgen at his Piano Forte Supply sells a nice one. I installed one of his units on a grand some years ago and it works very well.
