    Paris 1900 on the plate. Reminds me of a very good ilk of Baldwin.

    Have you analyzed the goop's composition?

    Susan, right on, yup older Baldwin model R'ish, so this was a while ago but was reminded when I found the pics on my phone , no I didn't analyze the chemistry just got on with removal and ouch fixed the hammer spacing!

    I think the green stuff is silly string . It was popular a few years ago and kids played with it. Comes out of a spray can and is like a rubber caulking The white stuff looks like a dried nail polish , melted plastic or wax. The green stuff may be like chewing gum and respond to ice cubes to harden it . Try finding out what silly string was made of to see how to remove it
