Hi Folks, I recently tuned a Knabe upright grand 28955 - 1880 - over 100 years old - my first time at client and they wanted it tuned plus repair hammers 87 and 88. What I found was one wooden flange was missing and one was broken (see pics) - does anyone have replacements for these flanges?  Thanks, Stan Ragnes

Try contacting Louis Gentile up in Braintree Mass near Boston. He is not in PTG but you can google him. Issac Sadigursy in LA area has lots of parts and is worth reaching out to. Someone with a 3d printer might be able to make one but with the right woodworking skills and tools a newer one could be turned into something that will work. The action could be the same in other brands just like pratt read actions are common to many pianos. I will look around my stash as well

Why not just glue it back together?

To strengthen the entire repair, drill a hole (that will accept a round toothpick) crosswise through the flange and glue tg e toothpick in. You have basically doweled the joint which is as good as it gets.

This repair was shown in the PTJ some years ago. Works great.

If you have woodworking capabilities, fashion a replacement from a modern flange. Plug the screw hole and redrill, add wood (rabbit joint) and trim for fit.
Make a few while you're at it to store with the piano; In the words of Fats Waller, "One never knows, do one."

Thanks to you all for your feedback.  I did check bottom of piano for the part and none was found.  I plan on gluing the broken piece  but was hoping that someone would have an original replacement.  Looks like I'll be getting my woodworking tools out and make a new one adding wood to a flange and drill hole that matches broken part length.  I'll be contacting the folks you gave me also to see if they have a replacement.  Thanks again, Stan
