I had a call to fix 5 broken strings in a Weber Grand in the treble to high treble area. The strings are close to each other so I am wondering if the capo bar needs to be filed/dressed or if there is some other issue needing investigation. The owner said she bought string and tools to do the job - maybe she watched You Tube. I am okay with putting on replacement strings with my own string and tools but do not need a job that will be a lunch and dinner eater. The last time I had a call like this it was a college kid who told me he tried to touch up the unisons.  I have an inspection scope that I can use to get a better picture of the strings looking up from the keybed. I have only read about dressing areas with wire cuts and would likely refer the job

I do not have a serial number to date the piano and also wonder if it has action bracket issues. I know YC had the action bracket issues but a number of other brands made by them such as some wurlitzers, piano disc, chickerings had bad brackets.

Two things.  One, it could be that all the strings aer the same size and the batch they used at the factory was defective. It wil hard to say because all the pianos out of that defective coil of string were sent to different parst of the world, and customers don't talk to each other. So there would be no need to redress that cap bar. Just put on new strings and let it go at that.

The second thing is, A customer saw a u-tube video on how to replace strings. She probably also saw a video on how to set her her own boken leg. There are so many mistakes she could have made that just replacing the strings with the right size, never mind the right tools and experience, will do the trick.

I had a a1996 Weber for spec. I had to restring and replace the capo metal inserts because the wire pressed into it. YC supplied the new inserts made from brass, which needed quite a bit of filing to dress. While I was at it, I retro-fit vertical hitch pins. Amazing piano now.
