Best glue for brass-to wood

I have acquired some brass damper blocks for an upright piano.

    They are very nifty!

But how do I glue the dampers themselves to BRASS?

    Try PVC-e glue.

They must be very heavy.  Do you really want to use them?

The mass helps the damping, and they don't need to be lifted. The rail takes the weight.??

I assume they are used only for bass damper section?--

I've seen these brass damper barrels used on the M line Sauters.  The added mass creates amazing dampening function.

At some point, Del Fandrich talked about the different damping from mass or from spring tension. I can't remember just when.

I think Del was referring to a grand action though.  He was advocating putting weight in the damper head over spring tension on the underlever.

Google using burnt shellac. Traditionally used for felt on pates.

That sounds familiar, but I thought I also remembered him talking about upright damper blocks. He replaced some brass ones with wood, and the damping got worse?

But my memory can be AWOL these days.

    Hi,

It was in the middle of (yet another) long discussion about rebuilding techniques for various grands; and, while the specific system was older Chickering, there was also comment on S&S.

I've added brass to damper heads on both brands with good success. YMMV.

    Kind regards.

Del has designed upright damper systems that use brass barrels instead of wood.

    David,

Definitely uprights. It was demonstrated on my piano during a chapter technical.

    Mass matters.

    What ever glue you use,
scratching the surface increases the surface area and creates a mechanical bond

"Shoe Goo" is ideal for this. Very strong, slightly flexible. Unfortunately also very smelly (but all the well performing stuff smells bad, right?)

I think I bought it at Target. Amazon I'm sure has it.
