Well, this is the wildest thing I have ever seen. A drill hole through a plate strut.

Seiler Grand Piano Model 145. Built around 1930-35. The piano is currently 10 cents flat.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this?

    Paul.

A hole like the one in your picture might have been drilled to stop a crack from propagating.
I've not seen one drilled in a plate before.

Not sure why it was done to this piano but to install a mute rail for a piano disc system requires drilling through the horn or a plate strut. I am not sure a drilled hole would stop a plate crack . I just finished piano disc re-certification training and one of the large Mason & Hamlins had such a hole. I have a picture I can send you
